4. Particular value of identified primeval and old-growth forests on the planned expansion territories of Carpathian NNP

 

The most valuable feature of the primeval and old-growth forests on the planned expansion territories of Carpathian NNP is a diverse species composition. Here primeval and old-growth forests are represented by 11 stand types. Apart from broadleaved species (beech, spruce and fir), rare forest-forming species are recorded - Scots pine and mountain pine. Especially valuable due to their rarity are the following stand types: Scots pine- Norway spruce, Norway spruce-common beech, silver fir-common beech, common beech-Norway spruce stands.
