4. Particular value of identified primeval and old-growth forests on the planned expansion territories of NNP "Cheremosky"

 

The most valuable feature of the primeval and old-growth forests on theplanned expansion territories of NNP “Cheremosky” are the following, firstly, most of the primeval forests are represented by pure Norway spruce stands insufficiently protected in the Ukrainian Carpathians; secondly, there is a high share of fir in the tree species compositionof these forests; thirdly, they are located near Romanian border. This could be a promising basis for the organization of bilateral protected areas.
