T

he Project implementation area in the Uzhansky National Nature Park comprises a total area of Park of 39159,3 ha.
Its highest nature conservation value is a large area of old-growth and primeval forests – in total of 3737.3 ha. This territory is a part of the International Biosphere Reserve "Eastern Carpathians", which includes regional landscape park "Nadsyansky" in Ukraine, National Park "Poloniny” on Slovak Republic territory, Bieszczady National Park and regional landscape parks “Valley of Sian” and "Tsisnyansko-Vetlinsky” in Poland.

The problematic issue of NNP is the lands given to the park without withdrawal from the permanent land-users. Their area is 9938.6 ha. Forest management regime, which is currently applied there, contradicts to the current environmental legislation. Consequently, the NNP is not able to ensure the full protection of natural complexes of reserved territory. To optimize the functional structure of the NNP it is proposed to withdraw the lands and transfer them to the Park for permanent use. On this area of 1545.7 ha beech, sycamore-beech and fir-beech old-growth and primeval forests are conserved, they could be included into UNESCO site "Beech primeval Forests of the Carpathians and old-growth forests of Germany" in the future. Some of these old-growth and primeval forests are part of the valuable protected sites - forest sample plots of prof. A. Zlatnik in beech primeval forests, the forest reserve "Dubova", beech and sycamore-beech forest reserve in the hole "Pid Rosolom", primeval beech forest reserve "Yavirnyk", primeval beech forests reserve "Solyansky".

The flora of not withdrawn territory comprises 15 species listed in the Red Data Book of Ukraine (2009). Among them Scopolia carniolica, Neottia nidus-avis, Epipactis helleborine and Epipactis atrorubens, Lilium martagon, Lycopodium annotinum, Dactylorhiza incarnata and Dactylorhiza maculata, Huperzia selago, Lunaria rediviva, Atropa belladonna, Galanthus nivalis, Gladiolus imbricatus, Festuca drymeja, Traunsteinera globosa. In the structure of vegetation six groups listed in the Green Data Book of Ukraine (2009) were identified: grouping of beech forests with dominance of Asplenium scolopendrium in the stand, beech forests with dominance of Lunaria rediviva in the stand, beech forests with the dominance of Scopolia carniolica in the stand, acidophilus rocky oak forests, ordinary rowan-beech forests, sycamore forests with dominance of Lunaria rediviva in the stand.

The fauna has 1287 species of animals. Invertebrates - 1074 species, fishes - 19 species, amphibians - 12 species, reptiles - 9 species, birds - 113 species, mammals - 60 species.
